Sharpen your Saw
Spend Time With Yourself to be a better you.
As October unfurls, the trees don their fiery cloaks of reds and golds. Yet, with the sun’s embrace still as warm as a midsummer afternoon, it’s 80 degrees today!
Why do I find myself cocooned indoors, away from the symphony of rustling leaves, the scent of autumn in the air, and the heat of a comforting summer day?
A crazy dichotomy!
By the time you read this, I’ll be hiking somewhere and enjoying this day. You should also be enjoying the day — do you take care of yourself?
Stephen Covey shared with us a technique called Sharpen the Saw.
It is one of the most important tools for your sanity – it provides us with balance. As we begin to lose focus and feel like we are in a funk, lost, or not ourselves, we lose internal balance.
- Physical (Body) — Do you have the strength to get through the day? The energy you need to be focused and the ability to disconnect and rest?
- Mental (Mind) — When you are so focused on work that you burn out. The ability to focus on something different will let your minds rest. You don’t need to stop working, just change focus.
- Social (Heart) — Socializing helps to reduce stress & depression and everyone needs to interact with others at some point. It can also help the mental by allowing us to think and interact on ideas with others.
- Emotional (Soul) — Are you aligned to yourself? This is not saying you need to be religious but you should try to be in toon with your inner self.
